Polyurethane Injection Molding Process

Injection molding is a repetitive process with extremely fast cycle time, which is carried out in a dedicated automated injection molding machine. The PU injection molding process involves the following steps:

Solid polyurethane pellets are fed directly into the injection barrel of the machine.
The reciprocating screw of the barrel pushes the polyurethane pellets toward the mold.
The high shear action of the screw frictionally heats the pellets, completely melting them at the end of the barrel.
When enough material has accumulated at the end of the barrel, the molten polyurethane enters the mold at one time at high pressure and speed.
The material enters the mold through a series of gate channels.
After the material solidifies, open the mold and use a series of pins, sleeves and demolders to eject the product.
